Guitar and Bass Lessons on Bainbridge Island

Hi! My name is Scott. I’ve been visiting Bainbridge Island since 2005, but I finally moved here in 2022. I’m looking for students of all ages interested in learning to play guitar and bass, but my specialty is helping people become fully functional musicians capable of writing music, improvising a solo, and playing with others.

The boring technical stuff about me: I started teaching in 2001, received a B.A. in Music Composition from SPU in 2009, and have played countless gigs on guitar and bass in the Seattle area. I have also co-written and recorded music for a variety of artists, and have had my songs placed in TV shows and a movie.

But here is the part that matters:

I firmly believe that music is a language. We humans use language to express ourselves. Learning increasingly difficult songs over time is great for your technique, but isn’t great for the self-expression aspect of music.

My teaching philosophy flips the script on traditional lessons. I want to get my students writing music and playing with others as quickly as possible. From there, playing music becomes fun and rewarding, and the skills and concepts you need to learn in order to improve become obvious, because they are holding you back from having more fun.
