What Are My Patrons Saying?

Kristofer.jpeg
I’ve been learning guitar in some form or another since I was a kid and Scott’s lessons are the first time I’ve felt both pleasure in learning and a sense that I’m progressing after finishing each lesson. I think what I love about Scott and this Patreon is that, in spite of being based almost entirely online, sitting down to watch a video feels like an in-person one-on-one experience and despite the growing audience, Scott will always find time to reply to your queries. The community forum is also a fantastic place to find like-minded people who are or have been in the same place you in regards skill level. If you are serious about learning about music and guitar then this is the right place.

Scott has the most comprehensive guitar-teaching style I have ever experienced. I’ve been in the music world a long time and honestly, no one compares with him. He is clear, concise, and uses the best visual teaching tools as well. For someone who is a very visual learner, this has been absolutely game-changing. He is encouraging, funny, extremely knowledgeable, and very patient. Having the opportunity to learn from him has been one of the greatest gifts of my life, and I’m not exaggerating.

Scott has a natural gift for teaching. I’ve been playing guitar on and off for nearly 25 years, but the progress I have made in under a year since joining Scott’s Patreon has been amazing. Scott has fostered an enthusiastic, supportive and friendly community in which to learn and share music.

I tried to learn music 3 times in my life with private teachers. None of my teachers could bring me to enjoy it. I just couldn’t understand music. So, for a long time I was just playing on my sofa, bar chords… copying my favorite bands on guitar. Till I find Mr. Johnson! Yes is online but works! The way how he teaches is crazy good. Everything is fun and easy to learn! After 6 months I still playing sometimes the songs from my favorite bands but I am also making my own. This is amazing! And its cost me just a french fries monthly preise.

Diving deeper into music theory, starting from scratch and building it up, this in combination with exercises gives a lot of satisfaction. Knowing what you are doing and at the end even writing music gives a good feeling.
Also the community is very supportive.

I’m one of those who reopened the old guitar case when we had to stay at home. For several months I used one of the big online guitar websites. It was OK and I improved - but it didn’t feel I had a connection with the teachers.
When my subscription ended I decided to try something new. I explored several options and Scott’s Patreon was clearly the best for me. The amount of content is huge and very high quality: videos, PDFs, Jam tracks! Scott is an excellent teacher and he really knows his topics - Music theory, techniques, recording, soloing, how to practice, …
Also, Scott is available! He is there for his patrons: every week he hosts a live stream for questions and he is on the forums if you need him. Cherry on top of the cake: the community! Scott is building a super friendly and super helpful community through the forums. It’s always so motivating to see what other people created.
In 2 months with him and the community I learned so much more than in one year with the previous website! I wish I had subscribed earlier!

So many times I shared his YouTube channel to my friends who are trying to learn guitar. With the patreon, you get the same quality + so much more weekly content! Everything well organized to help you further your guitar playing or music knowledge. Well worth the money.

I have been playing guitar and performing for more than half of my life. Growing up, I could play almost any song I wanted to learn from tabs, but if you asked me to play a one-four-five chord progression in C major, I would probably jam with someone else. After studying music production in college, I still had lots to learn about songwriting, music theory, and truly understanding the fretboard.

Scott is unlike any teacher I’ve had before. He takes simple foundational concepts such as open chords and scales and shows you how to build on them and develop a conscious mind for making music. I’ve learned how to take song ideas and develop them thoughtfully and purposefully. From melody writing and song analysis to beat-making and music production.

Scott’s lessons are way more than a guitar course. They are a safe space for music creators, songwriters, and instrumentalists to develop and grow. Scott’s Patreon is for anyone looking to expand on their musical knowledge- especially if you think like a guitar player and have a firm understanding of the guitar.

I’m new in the game, but already spending a lot of time practicing. One reason why I chose this course is the well founded explanation. You get to know things from the ground up. Every step included. And that’s how teaching should be. To make people understand why they’re learning what they’re learning and to be able to play around with it.

Also, the understanding here is giving me a key to music. It’s a lot of synergy. I’m now able to listen to music that seemed too complex before. Or which was a lot at once. Now I’m more courageous and most importantly, I like it now. Funk for example - crazy s***!

I have been a member of Scott’s Patreon from the start and continue to find incredible value from his content. For a fraction of the price of a single guitar lesson you have access to a treasure trove of high quality videos on music theory, guitar technique, soloing, songwriting, recording, and much more – the back catalogue is also very well organized and easy to navigate!

I had played guitar for many years before joining Scott’s Patreon but had become stagnant in my playing, was unable to break outside standard open chord/barre chord rhythm playing and knew very little music theory before finding Scott through his CAGED method YouTube video and then joining his Patreon page. It renewed my interest in the guitar and songwriting as well as sparked a new interest in music theory. I have definitely noticed a significant improvement in my playing and confidence with the guitar as well as my songwriting. Scott has an incredible knack for explaining otherwise complicated music/guitar theory concepts in such a clear and concise way that they suddenly make total sense, and you can incorporate the new understanding into your own music and guitar playing. The weekly “Music Theory Monday” videos are an excellent resource, and the recent songwriting challenges Scott has put to the community have been a great new addition, a lot of fun and super helpful in developing my songwriting in new directions. Scott has an approachable and personable style, endless patience and genuine care and interest in helping the Patreon community develop as guitar players and songwriters. And the SPJ Community Forum Scott created for his Patreon members is awesome! It is an incredibly supportive, creative and fun group of people from all over the world and has become a great space for sharing songwriting ideas, asking questions, discussing music theory, and getting feedback and encouragement from other members.

Being a member of Scott’s Patreon community has been such a rewarding experience and I can’t recommend it highly enough!!

Scott is an easy to learn from teacher. His style is so laid back and friendly his lessons feel like a chat with a close friend. He creates the best materials to go along with his videos, hands down. The PDFs alone would be worth more than what I’ve paid in Patreon fees! The video content is phenomenal as well, with the various unique and extremely helpful visual aids in every video. Easily the most bang for the buck spent on music and guitar learning! I’ve been playing guitar on and off for almost 30 years, I’ve learned more in the past year from Scott than I have in the past 15 from anywhere else!

Scott Paul Johnson has somehow found the perfect balance for teaching us how to understand and play the guitar. He is technically savvy, yet he doesn’t let the equipment or the gear get in the way of the music. He is personal yet not self-centered, learned about music and its history but never pedantic or condescending. Most of us land on his Patreon because we are mesmerized by his YouTube lessons. We stay for almost the opposite reason: we want to understand step by step and second by second how the notes fit together on the guitar. Scott seems to have found the key to that! He takes the time to teach.
